Dates we mark together

The Calendar Carries Grief Too

  • Mother’s Day and Father’s Day (May and June): remembrance for parents whose child has died, and for those grieving a parent.
  • National Grief Awareness Day (August 30)
  • Suicide Prevention Month (September) and World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10)
  • Out of Darkness Suicide Awareness Walk (the first Sunday in October): Dr. Tracy walks every year in her daughter’s memory.
  • Children’s Grief Awareness Month (November) and International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day (the Saturday before Thanksgiving)
  • The holiday season (November through January), when grief support is often needed most. In one national poll by Experience Camps and The Harris Poll, 36 percent of Americans said they did not feel like celebrating the holidays because of grief and loss.
